JOB DESCRIPTION
The Automation Sales Engineer is responsible for driving business growth by developing and executing strategic sales initiatives for automation and controls engineering services and solutions. This role focuses on identifying new opportunities, expanding relationships with existing clients, and delivering technically sound and commercially competitive automation solutions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers while expanding market presence through new business development.
- Identify, qualify, and engage prospective clients to evaluate and understand their automation and controls needs.
- Communicate effectively with client decision-makers to promote and position the company’s automation capabilities and services.
- Attend pre-bid and customer meetings to review and validate technical specifications and project scope.
- Collaborate with engineering and internal stakeholders to develop tailored automation solutions aligned with customer requirements.
- Prepare, deliver, and present technical and commercial proposals; participate in project and bid review meetings.
- Evaluate project requirements, including automation hardware, software, and system integration needs.
- Assist in developing technical sales materials, cost estimates, and proposal documentation based on customer specifications.
- Lead customer contract negotiations, including pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, and insurance requirements.
- Maintain accurate sales records, reports, and all documentation related to sales activities.
- Manage and grow the assigned territory: Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio.
- Travel regularly to customer offices and manufacturing facilities to support sales and relationship development.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience selling electrical, automation, or controls engineering services and equipment within manufacturing environments.
- Strong technical understanding of industrial electrical and controls systems.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Highly organized, analytical, and results-driven with a strong desire to succeed in a sales environment.
- Ability to work independently and remotely when required.
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the assigned region.
COMPENSATION
- Commission-based position with a competitive base salary plus a generous performance-based commission structure.
